“For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
Humans tend to look at each other’s appearance. What they’re wearing, how their hair looks, what their skin color is, waist circumference, etc. But God doesn’t look at a person’s skin, or hair, or their accessories. He doesn’t care about how much money is in your wallet or the car you drive. God looks deeper than that — to your heart.
When everybody looked at David, they saw him as insignificant and young. But God looked at David’s heart and chose him to be king of Israel because he loved God, he desired to be holy, and knew he had to repent when he was wrong.
In fact, God has chosen the rejects and the poor, over the rich and mighty, to do great things for Him. He has never looked on the outside because it was what’s on the inside that’s important.
We need to look away from the opinions of other people and focus on our love for God and the life He has chosen for us.
